Ry Cooder The Prodigal Son

The Prodigal Son Debuts with International Chart Success

Set to Embark on First Tour in Ten Years this June

Ry Cooder’s first new album in six years, The Prodigal Son debuted this week to widespread critical acclaim and major chart success around the world.  Additionally, the masterful roots, blues and R&B album was the focal point of Ry’s fascinating feature this weekend on NPR’s All Things Considered, listen HERE.

For nearly 50 years, Ry Cooder, the Santa Monica based musician, producer, songwriter and sage, has explored music and culture from across the city, the state, the country and around the world.  Aided by his son, drummer and chief collaborator, Joachim Cooder, The Prodigal Son is our own history of the spirit, sounding completely fresh and contemporary, a deft commentary on our ailing moral state.  The album has generated excitement from fans and critics alike. The Prodigal Son is Cooder’s best U.S. sales performance in over a decade and its impressive international chart entries include #10 in the UK, (his first Top 10!), #8 in Belgium, #11 in Ireland, #16 in Holland and #17 in Germany.

Rolling Stone declared, “The Prodigal Son, Cooder’s first album in six years, serves both as an urgent commentary on our current dystopia and a satisfying window into the interpretive process of a musical mastermind,” while the Daily Telegraph affirmed, “The Prodigal Son is destined to become an instant classic. My pick for rock album of the year.” And MOJO’s 5-STAR review proclaimed, “A career-high in an album of highs.”

Ry Cooder’s first tour in nearly a decade will kick off on June 4th at The Birchmere in Washington, DC. Ry will visit Town Hall in New York on June 8th and is also set to perform at Tanglewood in Boston on July 1st, among other major cities and venues. Joining him will be drummer, percussionist, and keyboardist, Joachim Cooder; singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Robert Francis; saxophonist, Sam Gendel; pianist, Glenn Patscha and GRAMMY Award-winning vocal trio, The Hamiltones. For full tour routing and ticket information, please visit: RyCooder.com.
