Cutting-edge technology illuminates the standout track “Popstar” from INTELLEXUAL’S self-titled debut album
Intellexual, the brand-new project from GRAMMY-winning production and songwriting team Nico Segal and Nate Fox, released the official music video for the dreamy, evocative “Popstar,” a track from their acclaimed self-titled debut album. Looking for a unique visual experience to match the song’s inspired musicality, (including vocals from Benny Sings, Liam Kazar, Grace Weber and Peter Cottontale) Intellexual partnered with immersive entertainment agency FEVER CONTENT to create Popstar: Reflections – An Immersive Music Video. In the video, the audience is transported into a modern love story told through a mirror maze of optical illusions, brought to life utilizing state-of-the-art, in-camera techniques, mirrors, reflections and time-lapse footage. Fans can watch the video now on select VR headsets, YouTube or Facebook.
To fully engage with the unique storytelling, users can immerse themselves in the experience through a number of commercial VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) or view online, using a mouse to click and drag around the video. On mobile, viewers can either drag with their finger or simply turn the device. Also launching today are custom AR filters which, in line with the music video’s theme, allow users to create their own fractured self-portraits on Snapchat or Instagram. The specially designed filters transform the user’s face into a collection of mirror-like shards. Each reflection contains a piece of the user’s face and some aspect of the surrounding environment.

Nico Segal and Nate Fox have teamed up to create Intellexual. Best known as founding members of the Chicago-based music collective, The Social Experiment, the pair established themselves on the cutting edge of independent music with their acclaimed cult classic Surf, by Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, widely recognized as one of 2015’s best albums. Their notoriety took another major leap in 2016 with their essential contribution to Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book, for which they both took home GRAMMY Awards. In addition to touring with Chance, the in-demand production and songwriting team have recently created with a variety of artists including J.
