Today, Avi Kaplan has shared “Song For The Thankful,” the first new, original track from the rising singer-songwriter in more than a year. Produced by Tony Berg (Andrew Bird, Phoebe Bridgers) and recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, CA., “Song For The Thankful” is a moving elegy to the power of gratitude and the light it can bring to one’s life. Built on a bed of acoustic guitar, pedal steel and Kaplan’s extraordinary baritone, this release represents a new creative phase for the California native (and current Nashville resident). Watch the track’s accompanying animated video directed by Mertcan Mertbilek, HERE.
“Song for the Thankful” is about finding gratitude in every aspect of life,” Kaplan affirmed. “The good and the bad, in darkness and in light. There’s beauty to be found in all of it and I hope that anyone who listens can find gratitude in their life regardless of what end of the spectrum they are currently in.”
“Song For The Thankful” is the first original music from Kaplan since the release of his acclaimed, Mike Mogis Produced debut EP, I’ll Get By, in February of 2020. He also shared the 4-track Lean On Me EP with fans last summer which featured alternate mixes of fan-favorite tracks off I’ll Get By along with his cover of the Bill Withers classic, “Lean On Me.”

This is a very nice article. I love Avi’s new song and his voice both are so beautiful. I also like the video very much. It was well done.
Avi’s new song takes a James Taylor tone as used in “Fire and Rain” or Gordon Lightfoot’s with John Denver’s joy in nature from “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and fuses it with deeply meaningful lyrics and harmonies that only Avi Kaplan could bring to it, pictured in illustrations that are universal and will not age. In other words pretty smashingly perfect for this time.
This song is one I go back to over and over. Just thought I’d come here and let you know how beautiful I think it is.
