SWITCHFOOT frontman Jon Foreman on the inspiration behind Covers: “Spring of 2020 has been a strange time for all of us. Quarantined at home, music has meant more to me than ever, something that feels stable even against the current backdrop of instability. Rather than just sing the songs written within the confine of our own quarantines, (those will come later!) we have collected half a dozen of the songs of others. Different voices. Different opinions. This diverse collection of songs is an attempt to express a truly universal language that reaches outside the confines of my own home, an openhanded embrace of all of the unique idiosyncrasies within the human tribe. There is a commonality in melody, and rhythm, and lyric, and truth that speaks to me even from someone who might look different than myself. This is the beauty of music: it can take us around the world, even when we’re quarantined at home.”
SWITCHFOOT also announced today the 16th annual BRO-AM event will be live streaming June 27th on www.SWITCHFOOT.com. More details to follow.
Additionally, the band announced this morning they will take part in the FEED THE NEED Drive-In Concerts event on Sunday, June 7th at Petco Park in their hometown of San Diego, CA. Produced by Local Media San Diego, the San Diego Padres and Westward Entertainment, the day will consist of two separate concerts with SWITCHFOOT performing at sunset along with special guest Noah Cyrus. Net proceeds will go to Feeding San Diego, the leading hunger-relief charity serving San Diego County. This landmark event for live music in San Diego will be the first concert in California since March when shutdown orders were imposed. Social distancing and protective precautions will insure a safe and entertaining event. Both shows will feature full stage and sound production, and multiple video screens so all concertgoers can enjoy the performances safely from inside their car. Tickets are on sale today at 5pm Pacific and for more information please visit www.FeedTheNeedSanDiego.com.
