DEBUT LP THRILLED TO BE HERE OUT APRIL 26TH

PRODUCED BY JOHN CONGLETON (ST. VINCENT, THE WAR ON DRUGS)

Announce Headline April U.S. Tour Dates, Including NYC Show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on 4/23

Confirmed For SXSW

NYC’s BAILEN  – fraternal twins Daniel (vocals/bass/synth/guitar), David (vocals/drums), and younger sister Julia Bailen (vocals/guitar)  – today shared a new video for “I Was Wrong,” the lead single from their John Congleton (St. Vincent, The War on Drugs) produced debut LP Thrilled To Be Here, out April 26th, 2019 on Fantasy Records. Watch it HERE.

“Much of the inspiration for the video came from the portraiture of Richard Avedon,” says director Nick Ray McCann. “I enjoy taking on a music video concept with inspiration from another medium. It pushes me conceptually to figure out how to bring a static 2D art form into a time-based world with audio. I filmed each member of BAILEN singing along to the song and moving, more akin to a photo shoot than a music video, then created a number of layered images from that footage to project onto each band member. The result was a collection of these dark psychedelic portraits. Drawing more inspiration from Avedon, I then cut apart the various performance takes into three panels, similar to Avedon’s large panoramic portraits he’d create using multiple negatives. I love how the images overlap, creating these ever-changing negative spaces.”

Released January 25th, “I Was Wrong” is the band’s first-ever single – a statement of compassion and self-reflection fueled by their beguiling three-part harmonies and praised by outlets including Stereogum and The Wild Honey Pie, among others. BAILEN’s second single from Thrilled To Be Here, “Your Love Is All I Know,” will be released tomorrow, Friday, February 22nd.

BAILEN – who sold-out NYC’s Bowery Ballroom in late January prior to releasing any music and also recently performed live at Paste Studios (WATCH HERE) – today announced headline U.S. tour dates in April that include a stop at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 23rd. The bands’ current headline tour continues tonight in Chicago, IL, at Schubas, and includes a show at L.A.’s Bootleg Theatre on March 7th. The band is also scheduled to make several appearances in Austin during SXSW. See below for a full itinerary of upcoming dates. Tickets for the April dates will go on sale tomorrow.

BAILEN’s otherworldly musicality springs from a very deep well, in fact, it’s in their DNA. Raised in New York by their classically trained parents, Daniel, David and Julia immersed themselves in the family’s diverse record collection. The group’s highly collaborative songs are formed by three very different individuals who were all inspired by literature and a love of language. The resulting confident, meticulous songcraft of Thrilled To Be Here is rooted in the young group’s preternatural dexterity, insight and lyrical bite.

Detail-oriented and precise, the members of BAILEN found the perfect counterpoint in producer Congleton’s more open approach: “We think micro, and John was really good at thinking macro for the record,” Julia observes. “First records are special because you’ve spent your whole life writing them. Recording our album in a month at the same studio with one producer meant that we kept the creativity, but also found the cohesiveness.” The group emerged by cultivating a passionate following via their live show, guesstimating over 300 shows to date, and touring and collaborating with such artists as Amos Lee, The Lone Bellow, Joseph, Oh Wonder, and others.
