“‘I Was Wrong’ balances tender harmonies with a vulnerability and trust years in the making.” – NPR Music ‘Heavy Rotation: 10 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing’
NYC’s BAILEN made an early national TV debut this past weekend on CBS This Morning: Saturday Sessions, performing “I Was Wrong” and “Something Tells Me,” as well as a web-exclusive “Going On A Feeling.” All three songs are from the trio’s John Congleton (St. Vincent, The War on Drugs)-produced debut LP, Thrilled To Be Here, out April 26th on Fantasy Records. BAILEN – fraternal twins Daniel (vocals/bass/synth/guitar) and David (vocals/drums), and younger sister Julia Bailen (vocals/guitar) – have also announced a west coast headline tour in June, including a show at LA’s Troubadour on the 22nd. The band will next perform at BSP Lounge in Kingston, New York on April 4th to kick off a series of east coast dates leading up to their album release show at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on the 23rd. See below for a full itinerary of upcoming dates.
The quickly rising trio sold-out NYC’s Bowery Ballroom in late January prior to releasing any music and have since earned early acclaim from Rolling Stone, Stereogum, and The Wild Honey Pie, among others. Listen to Thrilled To Be Here album tracks “Rose Leaves,” “Your Love Is All I Know” and lead single “I Was Wrong,” which was just featured on NPR Music’s “Heavy Rotation: 10 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing” after its debut at #36 on the Triple A Radio chart and at #29 on the MediaBase Triple A chart.
BAILEN’s otherworldly musicality springs from a very deep well, in fact, it’s in their DNA. Raised in New York by their classically trained parents, Daniel, David and Julia immersed themselves in the family’s diverse record collection. The group’s highly collaborative songs are formed by three very different individuals who were all inspired by literature and a love of language. The resulting songcraft of Thrilled To Be Here is rooted in the young group’s preternatural dexterity, insight and lyrical bite.
The group emerged by cultivating a passionate following via their live show, guesstimating over 300 shows to date, and touring and collaborating with such artists as The Lone Bellow, Joseph, Oh Wonder, among others.
