SIGNS TO FANTASY RECORDS
I’ll GET BY EP, PRODUCED BY MIKE MOGIS, OUT FEB 28TH
Listen To “It Knows Me” HERE
US HEADLINING TOUR MARCH 1- APRIL 9, 2020
“Pop-forward track, evoking the empowerment and freedom that accompany self-knowledge and self-acceptance. The singer-songwriter’s sonorous voice is later joined by finger-picked acoustic guitars—it’s difficult to say which instrument is more uplifting” – Paste Magazine
Today, rising singer-songwriter Avi Kaplan has shared a brand new track, “It Knows Me” via PASTE, listen here. The song appears on Kaplan’s highly anticipated 7-track EP, I’ll Get By, which is set for release on February 28th, 2020 via his new label home, Fantasy Records.
Kaplan stated, “It Knows Me” was one of my favorite songs to record and produce with Mike. I wanted this song to carry the weight of the lyrics but still contain hopefulness. The weight is carried by the huge tribal drums and the heavily stacked almost hymnal like vocal harmonies. The hopefulness is embodied in the verbed out whistles along with the guitar and mandolin.”
Kaplan on signing to Fantasy: “Signing with Fantasy is an absolute dream come true. It’s such a blessing to work with a label that truly cares about the soul of the music and to be on the same roster as artists that I’ve looked up to for as long as I can remember.”
With the exception of lead track, “Change on the Rise,” (produced by Paul Moak) I’ll Get By was helmed by producer Mike Mogis, well known for his work with Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst and First Aid Kit among others. On I’ll Get By, Kaplan, the former Pentatonix star, raised just 40 minutes from Sequoia National Park in the rolling hills of central California, rediscovered his musical roots and delved deeper into the music he’s always loved. Exploring a range of sounds from soul to bluegrass, these songs are threaded together by the search for spiritual redemption, and cast with acoustic guitar, pedal steel, swirling organ and deep groove percussion that beautifully complement Avi’s haunting, other worldly vocal ability.
Currently on a sold-out tour of Europe, Kaplan will be venturing out on a solo U.S. spring tour with special guests Paper Wings – see full dates below.
