Special Fun Machine: The Sequel Vinyl Edition Has Arrived!!

Year-End Blow-Out Celebrations Confirmed!

2023 Gather Round Sounds Tour Dates Announced

As 2022 comes to a close, beloved pop-soul group Lake Street Dive has much to celebrate. First, the special vinyl edition of their much-admired covers EP Fun Machine: The Sequel (released in early September) is out today via Fantasy Records. The 9-track vinyl edition builds on the digital EP’s original 6-tracks, adding three exclusive Beatles covers (only available on vinyl!), including the Lennon/McCartney classics “Dig A Pony,” “Two Of Us,” and “Don’t Let Me Down.” Purchase Fun Machine: The Sequel vinyl edition HERE.

Lake Street Dive is currently gearing up for two blowout, year-end celebrations, December 30th at College Street Music Hall in New Haven, CT and December 31st at Roadrunner in their hometown Boston, MA.  (Both shows will feature special guest Devon Gilfillian.) In addition, the band recently announced the 14-date Gather Round Sounds Tour, which kicks off January 17th, 2023, at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, NC and includes two nights at Nashville’s storied Ryman Auditorium, January 19th and a sold-out show on 20th. The semi-acoustic Gather Round Sounds Tour (with special guest Monica Martin), will feature fan favorites, deep cuts, and some new material all presented in a relaxed, easy going, living room style setting.

Produced by Robin MacMillan and recorded at Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn and Lucy’s Meat Market in Los Angeles (with contributions from touring guitarist/background vocalist, James Cornelison), Fun Machine: The Sequel is the band’s second set of distinctive cover songs. While 2012’s Fun Machine paid homage to their classic R&B, neo-soul, and jazz roots, Fun Machine: The Sequel expands the aperture a little wider, featuring selections ranging from R&B and pop favorites like Dionne Warwick’s (the Burt Bacharach/Hal David penned) classic “Anyone Who Had A Heart,” and The Pointer Sisters’ funky “Automatic,” to works by introspective singer-songwriters such as The Cranberries’ gorgeous “Linger,” Carole King’s timeless “So Far Away,” Bonnie Raitt’s era-defining “Nick Of Time,” and even Shania Twain’s suddenly resurgent pop-country anthem, “You’re Still The One.”

To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the original Fun Machine EP, earlier this year Lake Street Dive released two fantastic live performance videos recorded on the same Boston street corner where they filmed their (now viral) cover of the Jackson 5’s I Want You Back, which helped propel the band’s incredible rise a decade ago. Watch a sublime take on Bonnie Raitt’s classic “Nick of Time,” HERE and their ebullient performance of The Pointer Sisters’ “Automatic,” HERE.

For Lake Street Dive, vocalist Rachael Price; bassist/background vocalist, Bridget Kearney; drummer/background vocalist, Mike Calabrese and keyboardist/vocalist, Akie Bermiss, the prospect of covering some of their favorite songs in the studio isn’t merely an exercise in breathless adoration.  It’s an opportunity for artful re-invention, a way to acknowledge their inspirations while also advancing their own musical foundation¾all in hopes of inspiring a new generation of fans along the way.
